Urban Family Events: Aug 10th – 16th

Edmonton Folk Music Festival (August 9th-12th at Gallagher Park) – Get your tickets to one of the most popular festivals in Edmonton. Sit back, relax and enjoy a variety of folk music acts from around the world.

Perseids Pyjama Party (August 10th from 8pm – 12am at Devonian Botanic Gardens) – Watch the Perseids Meteor Shower in the comfort of your pj’s and away from city lights! Activities for children include a mini-marshmallow roast over a tea light and glow-in-the-dark games.

Cariwest 2012 (August 10th-12th in Churchill Square) – Celebrate Caribbean culture by viewing  the parade (Saturday), tasting the cuisine, listening to the music and buying treats from vendors.

Safari Jeff’s Human Nature Exhibit (August 12th at West Edmonton Mall) - Dig for bones, learn about animals and take part in various activity stations in this interactive event.

African Safari: A Celebration of African Animals! (August 12th at Edmonton Valley Zoo) – Be sure to check out this fun event where children get to go on a local “African Safari”! Play games, visit and learn about African animals, win prizes and more.

Sunny Summer Fair (August 12th from 12pm-4pm at Rutherford House) – It’s an afternoon of old-fashioned fun that includes old-fashioned carnival games, prizes and many more family-friendly activities.

Celebrate Our Heritage (August 12th at Fort Edmonton Park) – Bring your children and introduce them to the role of women throughout the years. This event features live music as well as family-friendly activities including family games.

Ukrainian Day (August 12th at the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village) – Bring a lawn chair and join in Ukrainian celebrations. Enjoy the music, crafts and the food!

John Walter’s Birthday – An Evening in the River Valley (August 12th from 4pm-8pm at John Walter Museum) - Participate in some old-fashioned family-friendly activities! Bring a picnic dinner and enjoy complimentary lemonade and free cake. Listen to live music while the older children learn how to knit and younger children card wool and then take part in other historically based activities.

Family Nature Night (August 15th from 6:30pm – 8pm in Hermitage Park) – Every Wednesday night until August 29th, take part in a free Family Nature Night where you will explore nature and maybe even learn a thing or two about our natural environment.

The Village of the Fringe – Fringe Festival (August 16th – 26th in Old Strathcona) – While the Fringe Festival is very popular with adults, there is plenty for the younger ones to do too. Visit the Kidsville Tot Tent where your kids ages 0-5 can take part in story times, art, family yoga and activities including dance & movement. Kidsville itself will entertain children ages 0-12 with age appropriate entertainment.

See a movie with your newborn/infant in a baby-friendly environment with the Stars & Strollers features (held in Edmonton on Wednesdays & Thursdays).
