Urban Family Events: July 20th – 26th

Play Day (July 19th in Sherwood Park) – Get your kids active in this day of free play. Activities include traditional play such as fort building, playing in the sand and others.

Sobeys Movie Under the Stars at Legacy Park (July 20th starting at 9:45pm in Fort Saskatchewan) – Pull up a lawn chair and enjoy a free outdoor showing of How To Train Your Dragon. Be sure to arrive early as it has been a popular event in the past.

Freewill Shakespeare Festival (June 26th – July 22nd in Hawrelak Park) - Enjoy many of Shakespeare’s most popular works under the Heritage Amphitheatre tent.

Race Week Edmonton (July 14th – 22nd in various locations) – Gear up for the Edmonton Indy by taking part in a variety of family-friendly Race Week activities happening around the City including meet-and-greets and the Superstars of Monster Jam.  And be sure to visit the 2012 Ford Fun Zone where families can enjoy the pedal cars (for adults and children), a bouncy castle, inflatable slide and other activities.

A Taste of Edmonton (July 19th – 28th in Churchill Square) – Edmonton’s tastiest festival starts on July 19th. Be sure to check it out and sample some of the great dishes and drinks that Edmonton has to offer. A new feature this year is the introduction of up to 5 gourmet food trucks!

Edmonton Indy (July 20th – 22nd at the City Centre Airport) – Race fans, get your tickets and don’t miss out on three fun days of racing!

Capital Ex (July 20th to 29th at Northlands) – Be sure to check out this soon-to-be-renamed exhibition! This exhibition features midway rides, games, family-friendly shows, nightly fireworks displays and more.

Reel Family Cinema (July 21st at 12pm at Garneau Theatre) – Enjoy a traditional family Saturday afternoon matinee movie this Saturday by taking your children to see E.T.:The Extra-terrestrial. Children under the age of 12 get in free!

2012 Main Street Festival (July 21st in Leduc) - Stroll down downtown Leduc and take in the arts and crafts, Farmer’s Market and other family-friendly activities including car shows and street performers.

Mary Poppins Broadway Across Canada (July 24th – 29th at Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium) – Get your tickets so you don’t miss this stage performance of the family classic movie, Mary Poppins.

Family Nature Night (July 25th from 6:30pm – 8pm at  Jackie Parker Park) – Every Wednesday night until August 29th, take part in a free Family Nature Night where you will explore nature and maybe even learn a thing or two about our natural environment.
