Stressed over Strollers

One of the main stresses to parents that we seem to hear again and again is which stroller to buy! There are so many on the market now and it can be so overwhelming. Here are some questions to consider when buying a stroller:

1. What is my budget? – This of course is a big one because stroller prices can range from $15 – $1000 and the truth is that you sometimes get what you pay for.

2. What will I be using my stroller for? – Do you need a stroller for walks outside, for quick trips to the store, for winter weather, or for vigorous activities such as jogging or cycling? Each of those separate activities may correlate to a different stroller, and there are some strollers that will do them all. By taking a look at your lifestyle and the activities you like to do and will continue to do, you will be able to make a more informed choice.

3. Will I be having more children? – This may influence what stroller you will buy because you may want to be planning for the next child and buy a stroller that will accommodate at least two children.

4. Do I want to buy just the stroller or will I want to buy a travel system? – A travel system is usually a stroller and car seat combo. This helps many families in taking the stress out of looking for two things separately. However, a lot of great strollers do not come with a car seat, but have attachments for most car seats on the market.

The following are some of the top trends for strollers:

Bugaboo Donkey (Mono and Duo)

We just had to mention this stroller – the latest, luxury stroller from Bugaboo, converts from a single stroller to a double stroller with a “click”. New to the market, no prices in Canada yet, but rumored to be around $1500.

Bugaboo Cameleon

It’s a modular stroller that comes with the base, bassinet and seat, as well as a rain cover, mesh cover, and storage bags. The fabric can be customized as well.  Prices start around $900.

Phil & Ted’s

A great stroller for the active family. Large wheels make it easy to maneuver in winter conditions. Adaptable with almost all car seats and a great idea if you plan on having more than one child. Base model starts at $350.

Uppa Vista

This stroller was the top rated stroller from “The Baby Gear Guy NYC”, especially when it comes to winter season. Includes both bassinet and seat, telescopic handle, and zip in weather shields. Prices start at $680

Chariots

This is the ultimate stroller for the active family. This stroller can almost do it all – walking, jogging, bike trailer, hiking, and cross country skiing. This stroller can be purchased as a single or a double. Prices start at $500.

Travel Systems:

Graco

The most popular travel system. Probably the most economical you will find but doesn’t have the versatility of some of the more expensive brands.  Prices range from $330 – $450.

Quinny

A step up from the basic Graco, with better wheels for winter. Still a very basic model and quite practical. Prices start at $450.

Peg Perego

This is a higher-end travel system. Comes with adjustable/telescopic handles, car seat, foot muff, and has the ability to change the seat forward or backward. Prices start at $650.

Orbit Travel System

This is the ultimate travel system. With 360° rotation and recline, a travel pod diaper bag, and adjustable handlebars this stroller boasts an amazing ergonomical design. This is another luxurious spend for you and your baby at $1200.
